Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2023

The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2023 starts off the list of Australian yearling sales. Before we start, I wish to apologize to my readers for the intermittent postings I have been making. The floods in the Northern Rivers destroyed not only my house but also all my written records. Everything should be back to normal in a month or so and I will keep up a few selections on every major sale.

It is always a fun time at the first yearling sale of the year. I have noted four horses that I consider worth a look. Based on the analysis of their pedigree they should make fine racehorses.

Lot 592 ch f Street Boss – All Joy

Street Boss is the sire of 59 SW and has a SW/r score of 5.88%. This puts him just ahead of Danehill 157 SW and a score of 3.57%. Street Boss is the sire of Amanoe, Australia’s best racehorse. Although currently only 35th in Australian sires ranking, I expect him to move up. A cross to Lonhro as broodmare sire has already produced two SW, both fillies. Arcaded won both the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1107m) and G3 Magic Night Stakes (1208m). Bistro was successful in the L Cinderella Stakes (1057m). The PRI score of Lot 592 is 88.8 which certainly suggests a city winner.

Lot 907 b f Street Boss – Gorgons

Street Boss has already worked well with Exceed and Excel. This may not be surprising as Exceed and Excel is the current leading broodmare sire in Australia with a w/r score of 48.5%. This cross has produced 10.5% SW/r. There are four SW produced by this cross:

  • Elite Street G1 winner of the Winterbottom Stakes 1208m (also 4 x G3, 1 x L)
  • Hanseactic winner Blue Diamond Prelude (G3) 1107m and 2 x L
  • Petits Filous winner Quezette Stakes (G3) 1100m, and 1 x L
  • Tris winner SAJC Breeders Stakes (G3) 1200m

The first three on this list above were at their best as early two-year-olds. The PRI score for Lot 907 is almost 100. This filly is definitely worth a look.

Lot 571 is another b f by Street Boss from the Exceed and Excel mare Zerenda which has a similar pedigree. It has a PRI score of 87.3 and is a good prospect. Also worth a look.

Lot 1133 b f Star Turn – Izzajewel

Star Turn has come from nowhere into the possible star category. The sire of 6 SW including the G1 winner Startantes, he has rapidly reached sire number 20 (by winners). W/r of 54.2%, SW/r 4.84% are figures pretty good for a novice! Izzjewel is part of a progressive female family with 6GFI of 12.5%. As broodmare sire, Hinchinbrook has only one SW. Cordyceps Six won the HK Vase (G3) over 1208m.It has been difficult to see how Xaar will influence the female side of this pedigree but he hasn’t caused multiple G1 winners Harzand (English and Irish Derbys) and Yankee Rose (Spring Champion Stakes and AJC Sires Produce) any problems.

I hope you can get to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale 2023, you will enjoy the experience.
